Doug Barker: The All-Rounder Who Defined Illawarra Cricket

A legend in his own right, Doug Barker was a gifted all-rounder from Illawarra who made an indelible mark on the game. Known for his swing bowling and aggressive batting, Doug was the heart of every team he played in. His exploits included feats like a hat-trick against future Test players and leading Warrawong to four premierships.

Though he narrowly missed selection for the NSW First XI, Doug’s influence was unmatched. He was a respected leader, coach, and administrator, who remained active in cricket long after his playing days—retiring at age 43, but never far from the game he loved.

Doug’s commitment to cricket and community makes him more than just a Hall of Famer—he’s a role model for every club member.

Steve Nikitaras: The Late Bloomer with a Big Impact

Born in Wollongong in 1970, Steve Nikitaras is the definition of perseverance and passion. A late starter in the cricketing world, Steve’s raw pace and determination saw him rise quickly through the ranks, earning state selection for NSW and Western Australia. His breakout season in 1999–2000 marked him as one of the most exciting bowlers in the country.

Steve's journey didn’t end with state cricket. He captained Greece in international competition, led Port Kembla to premiership glory, and became a mentor to the next generation of cricketers—including his son, Blake Nikitaras, now a rising star himself.

Steve’s story is an inspiration for every young cricketer who dreams big, works hard, and never gives up.

A Proud Moment for Our Club

The induction of Steve Nikitaras and Doug Barker into the Cricket Illawarra Hall of Fame is not just a recognition of individual brilliance—it’s a moment of pride for Port Kembla Cricket Club and for the entire Illawarra cricketing family. These two men exemplify the values we hold dear: dedication, resilience, and community spirit.

We extend our heartfelt congratulations and gratitude to Steve and Doug. Your legacies are now etched into Illawarra cricket history—exactly where they belong.
